In the past year more than ever, I’ve had to explain to others what Hatch does. I found my spiel that I grew comfortable falling back on—the key concept that grounded our vision—was the depth of this concept “livelihood”.

Growing up, most of what I had heard about the concept of livelihood was this: Work is just work - a means of earning money to get by. Whatever was left would be what we had to make do with to lead “the rest of our lives” (sometimes: “the rest of our real lives”).

Yet, our identity in work holds such leverage over our entire identities.

This “livelihood” I was entering had the power to determine who I was, setting the parameters for what became possible for me and the things I cared about—all even if I had not consciously given it this authority to.

When I entered the workforce, my life completely shifted like an earthquake, with my work at its core transformation. Even when well-intended friends would warn me that “work was just work”, I struggled to cleanly draw that distinction.

I found myself lucky that I stumbled into a team at Hatch that understood how the edges of each person’s being spread out way beyond our work.

It felt like I had landed in a space with a bold take on what work looks like and how it could be defined, and dared to live that out. In a sharing, my teammate Sasi titled his journey “From Chaos to Career: How this job accidentally fixed my life”, describing his work in Hatch Mediahouse as “New job, new opportunities, new confidence, and new purpose.”

Instead of the people coming in to fit in the work, the shape of work revolves around our people - guided by our mission, vision and values.

Hatch builds projects that we know our team members will shine in, and chart our organisation’s growth trajectories framed by the convictions and the talent the team brings to the table.

My colleague Angel is a young mother of two and a badass web designer, Zenas is a mad hipster with dreams of being a photojournalist, and Faye originally joined Hatch to support the administration of our scrappy office operations. Today, Angel helms the web design arm of Hatch Mediahouse, Zenas takes beautiful headshots of our PWD learners as they stand on the cusp of new careers, and Faye is honing a specialisation in finance operations for social impact organisations.

We are proud to have built a culture where every aspect of our identity is welcomed through the door, and bringing our own dreams and superpowers, everyone walks their own path with us towards their professional growth and fulfilment.

We bring the same approach when we journey with individuals seeking to carve out bold new careers. My team members proudly speak about co-creating our learners’ futures by paying close attention to their individual strengths and personal aspirations. Rather than a job placement being the end goal, we charge towards their own vision - with full clarity that a job would be just one of many stepping stones to actualising a life that was truly theirs.

All cheers at the Demo Day of our July 2025 run of Immersive in Social Media! Learners work in groups on a case study marketing project and present their solutions to their loved ones and the Hatch team.

What would it look like to be embedded within an entire community fixated on redefining work in this changing age—determined to create a workforce centred on flourishing? How might we connect stakeholders, build co-ownership towards a movement for inclusivity, sustainability and progress in our work?

This means expanding our suite of programmes to add value to learners from all walks of life, with the conviction to be the trusted bridge between the digital evolution and our inherent desire to do ourselves right. This means committing to our birds’ eye view, bringing stakeholders—employers, job coaches, volunteers, learners, alumni and institutions—to make this unfold together. Not necessarily gracefully, or in an orderly fashion (bring the messiness! The exploration! The getting our hands dirty!), but always with people first. Our hearts on the line.

In 2026, Hatch is expanding our offerings to touch the everyday person on the street, curious about what the digital and AI revolution means to their work, hoping to find their place in the future of work.

To achieve this community-shapeshifting work, we are doubling our team to twenty, being stubborn to bring in only the best, and giving our all to those who have committed themselves to this journey with us.

Our team now is made up of eleven incredible leaders and team players, people who lead with heart and strength, and are agile and playful in what they build with us. Many of them found us in the same ways that you are now, curious and called to our mission— they made the right call to place their bets on us, and we hope that you will too.

I know 2026 will go down full of possibility, boldness, pushing boundaries. Will you be part of our twenty?

P.S. The title speaks of “Eleven to Twenty (Again!)” to allude to a similar post we made years back with the same callout. So much has changed since then! Visit that part of our history here.
